A law firm has issued a warning against the use of email signature blocks following a recent case where where a judge ruled that such a signature formed part of a legally-binding contract, costing a land seller £25,000.
The issue could occur where buyers and sellers communicate with each other directly; something that often happens when transacting through an online agency.
The firm advises that it is good practice to use terms such as “Without Prejudice” or “Subject to Contract” when sending emails that contain contract terms or amendments.
