The director of estate agent recruitment firm, Property Personnel has said that estate agencies are missing out on the best recruits by placing too much emphasis on experience as a criteria for hiring.
Mr Hesse of Property Personnel said that most agencies looking for a Sales Negotiator ask for someone with around 18-24 months experience. He says that this criteria excludes a lot of excellent candidates who have transferable skills that would make them a great fit for these positions.
Interestingly, a survey by the Home Owners Alliance found that only 12% of buyers are put off by inexperience with factors such as professionalism, appearance and telephone manner being more relevant.
